I’ve just spent a week on the Cornish coast so it seemed like an appropriate time to start the Demelza blanket CAL. The Demelza blanket is designed by Catherine Bligh and inspired by the character Demelza from Winston Graham’s Poldark novels. The full pattern is available on Ravelry with a companion pattern for a Ross Poldark blanket which is also very appealing. Surely I can’t do one without the other?
I was inspired to get started with the project when the Pippin Crochet Club Facebook group hosted it as a CAL with video tutorial support from Esther Dijkstra. Esther also provides the videos for Scheepjes Last Dance on the Beach CAL and pretty much everything I know about crochet I’ve learned from her instruction. So, no surprise that I’m happy to follow her lessons again to make this lovely blanket.
The Demelza CAL is already up to part 3 but I started at part 2, these flower squares, and will go back to catch up previous parts later. I’m choosing the colours as I go from the Scheepjes Stonewashed yarn, they all work beautifully together so the decision process can take a while. Following others on the Facebook group and Esther’s own colourway provides handy guidance and inspiration.
I’m still joining my second ‘Last Dance’ blanket made from Scheepjes Stonewashed yarn so Demelza progress will be a bit slow while I’m flipping between the two projects. Is it wrong to be imagining long evenings crocheting by the fire when it’s only September?
